How many sprays are in a 100 ml bottle of perfume? Roughly 1,000 – though anything from about 700 to 1,400 is possible, because perfume pumps don’t all deliver the same dose. Packaging maker Aptar, for example, sells its prestige fragrance pump in 70, 100 and 140 microlitre versions. Below we turn that into sprays per bottle size, how long each size lasts, and what a single spray really costs, using real prices from our shelves.
Key takeaways
- One spray from a full-size perfume pump is usually 0.07–0.14 ml. We use 0.1 ml as a fair middle figure.
- At 0.1 ml a spray, 100 ml gives about 1,000 sprays – about 11 months at three sprays a day.
- The median price of a 100 ml eau de parfum in our store is ₹2,749, or about ₹2.75 a spray and ₹250 a month at three sprays a day.
- Bigger bottles of the same perfume cost less per spray: our 7 ml Odyssey Aoud trial pack costs about 1.6 times as much per ml as the 100 ml bottle.
- At two to four sprays a day, a 100 ml bottle lasts between 8 months and 16 months.
How much perfume comes out in one spray?
Each spray is measured by the pump, not by you: a full press releases a fixed dose through the nozzle. Pump makers publish those doses. Aptar lists its VP4 prestige fragrance pump at 70, 100 or 140 microlitres (µl) per spray, and Silgan Dispensing’s fragrance pumps range from 70 to 130 µl. Smaller pumps used on miniatures can be around 50 µl. Since 1,000 µl make 1 ml, that is roughly 0.07–0.14 ml per spray, with 0.1 ml a sensible middle figure.
Two caveats. Brands rarely say which pump a bottle uses, so any spray count is an estimate. And a little liquid always stays below the reach of the dip tube; we couldn’t find a reliable figure for how much, so treat the counts below as slightly generous.
Sprays and months of use by bottle size
Sprays assume 0.1 ml each (the range covers 0.14 ml to 0.07 ml pumps). Duration assumes you wear perfume every day.
| Bottle size | Approx. sprays (range) | At 2 sprays a day | At 3 sprays a day | At 4 sprays a day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 ml | 70 (50–100) | about 35 days | about 23 days | about 18 days |
| 30 ml | 300 (210–430) | about 5 months | about 3 months | about 2 months |
| 50 ml | 500 (360–710) | about 8 months | about 5 months | about 4 months |
| 100 ml | 1,000 (710–1,430) | about 16 months | about 11 months | about 8 months |
| 200 ml | 2,000 (1,430–2,860) | about 2.7 years | about 22 months | about 16 months |
A handy rule of thumb: 1 ml ≈ 10 sprays. So a 7 ml trial pack holds about 70 sprays – enough to wear a perfume for two or three weeks before deciding on a full bottle.
What does one spray cost? Our real prices
We have 1,413 eaux de parfum in stock. Their median price is ₹2,899; for 100 ml bottles alone it is ₹2,749. At about 1,000 sprays a bottle, that typical 100 ml EDP costs ₹2.75 a spray, ₹8.25 a day at three sprays, or about ₹250 a month.
Here is the same sum for four real bottles of different sizes, at 0.1 ml a spray:
| Perfume | Size | Price | Per ml | Per spray | Per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Armaf Odyssey Aoud EDP trial pack | 7 ml | ₹299 | ₹43 | ₹4.27 | ₹12.81 (3 sprays) |
| Al Rehab Choco Musk EDP | 50 ml | ₹1,050 | ₹21 | ₹2.10 | ₹6.30 (3 sprays) |
| Armaf Odyssey Aoud EDP | 100 ml | ₹2,592 | ₹26 | ₹2.59 | ₹7.78 (3 sprays) |
| Afnan Supremacy Not Only Intense Extrait | 150 ml | ₹4,500 | ₹30 | ₹3.00 | ₹6.00 (2 sprays) |
Two things stand out:
- Small sizes cost more per spray. The 7 ml Odyssey Aoud trial pack and the 100 ml bottle hold the same scent (saffron, nutmeg and lavender over oud, patchouli and musk), yet per ml the trial pack costs about 1.6 times as much. You are paying for the chance to test before you commit – see our guide to perfume samples and trial packs.
- The number of sprays matters as much as the price of each one. Supremacy Not Only Intense costs ₹3.00 a spray against ₹2.10 for Choco Musk, but an extrait is usually worn with fewer sprays: at two a day it works out cheaper per day than Choco Musk at three, and its 150 ml bottle lasts about 2.1 years. The differences between EDP, EDT and extrait are explained in our concentration guide.
How many sprays do you actually need?
For most people it is two to four sprays a day of an eau de parfum: fewer for the office or an extrait, more for an evening out, a wedding or a light eau de toilette. Our guide to where to apply perfume gives spray counts by concentration and occasion, and shows where to put them. Here is what different habits mean for a typical ₹2,749 bottle of 100 ml:
| Your habit | Sprays a month | A 100 ml bottle lasts | Cost a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 sprays on office days only (22 days) | 44 | about 23 months | ₹120 |
| 3 sprays every day | 91 | about 11 months | ₹250 |
| 4 sprays every day | 122 | about 8 months | ₹330 |
| 5 sprays a day in wedding season | 152 | about 7 months | ₹420 |
If you can’t smell your perfume after an hour, resist the urge to add more – that is usually nose blindness, and it is the quickest way to empty a bottle.
Getting more value from every bottle
- Spray onto skin from about 15–20 cm, not into the air in front of you, where much of the mist ends up on the floor.
- Buy a size you will finish. A bottle you wear daily can be 100 ml or more; for a perfume you save for occasions, 50 ml is often wiser.
- Store it well, so the last hundred sprays smell like the first – see how to store perfume in summer.
- Try before you commit: browse our trial packs and miniatures.
